Dipping: An Old-Timey Method for Outsmarting the Future

Want to know what the future holds, but don’t have time to wait and see?

Why not try “dipping”?

Best done at breakfast on New Year’s Day, “dipping” involves opening a Bible at random and reading only what is written between the open pages:

“events of the ensuing year will be foreshown by the contents of the chapter…”

Chapter 11, Domestic Folktales, T.F. Thiselton-Dyer, 1881

For more detailed information about the days ahead, “dippers” could also consult the Book of Proverbs. With its 31 verses, this section of the Old Testament acted as a “mystical reference to the corresponding days of the month.”
