Found in the waters of Jeju Island off South Korea, Haenyeo are female, free-diving foragers.
Part of a centuries-old tradition, they dive in only a wetsuit and face mask collecting abalone, sea urchins, octopus and other edibles from the sea floor.
Aged between 50 and 90, Haenyeo risk their lives to make a living; selling their wares from small shacks along the shore.
For me, their work challenges stereotypes about age and gender.
But, to them, it’s just a job.
