Although known to foodies and travel journalists, I stumbled upon Jalan Kamunting (Kamunting Street) completely by accident.
It was Sunday afternoon, I’d woken up late and I felt the pressing need to do something touristy to make up for the lost time.
Should I visit the bustling Batu Caves?
Or should I head for the National Museum (Muzium Negara) for a bit of brain food?
I wasn’t sure, so I decided to take a leisurely stroll around my accommodation in the hopes it would help me make up my mind. A few minutes later, I was surrounded by heritage listed buildings, quirky cafes, a wide variety of restaurants, boutique hotels and street art.
Unbeknownst to me (until I did a little Googling), I had stumbled upon an older section of KL once known for its tin mining but now popular for its eateries and upscale accommodation options. Far from being a tourist trap, Jalan Kumanting is a mix of old and new, modern and traditional, locals and visitors.
Happily, the vibrant diversity of the area was reflected in the street art I spotted that afternoon.
Here’s a little taste:

They are talented, the art is amazing.
